Leaving from the hotel we skirt Johnny Woods before crossing 2 rivers at Rosthwaite. We then start a fairly strenuous climb up past Resting Stone and Birketts leap before descending a track towards Watendlath Tarn. Fantastic views if the weather is kind, and the little tarn is delightful. Possible opportunity for toilets and homemade scones if the cafe is open! We then follow the course of the beck down towards Derwent Water. The route includes a diversion to a spectacular viewpoint, but if the weather is poor we will cut this section out (approx 1 mile there and back) Dropping down to the lake we cross over the marshes and then head back via the Cumbrian Way through woods before passing Rosthwaite again and the path to the hotel
