An gentle circular walk from Railway Street, Slingsby. Partly on the route of the old railway line and incorporating areas of woodland with fine views across the Vale of Pickering and glimpses of Castle Howard.
Starting from Railway Street near the Grapes Inn there will be a short section of road walking until a turn to the west to join the old railway track. The next turn is southwards to Wath where we will carefully cross the Malton/Hovingham road before starting our ascent up to Hollin Hill Plantation. From here the woodland track is followed eastwards, crossing Fryton Lane and Slingsby Bank until Kirk Road (Track) is reached just before the trig point. There is now a descent to Barton-le-Street where the main road is again crossed. After continuing north for a while the route turns west, again close to the route of the old railway until Green Dike Lane is used to return to the start
Parts of the route may be slightly muddy if it has been wet. There is unlikely to be livestock on any part of the route. There are several options to shorten the walk once the ridge leading from Hollin Hill has been reached.
On street parking on Railway Street where consideration needs to be shown to residents access.
No dogs apart from registered assistance dogs with the permission of the walk leader.
