Friday, August 11, 2023, Stroller Walk
Tatton Park, Knutsford Entrance. Stroller walk. 4 miles/6.5 km., easy, mostly flat, no stiles. Meet at 10:30 at the beginning of the drive leading to the Knutsford Entrance (south entrance) to the park, under a nineteenth century lamp post, at the junction of Mereheath Lane, King Street and Garden Lane. Grid Reference SJ75107904. We will walk north through the gateway, through woodland, then alongside an avenue of ancient beech trees. At the Stable Yard, where there are toilets, we can have our own coffee and snack at picnic tables, or buy coffee from the café. We return by a different route, along Melchett Mere and Tatton Mere. There is a variety of flora and fauna to enjoy, including ancient and more recently planted trees, birds, butterflies, waterfowl, and of course the park’s deer herd. Park on the road on Mereheath Lane (no charge) beside the golf club, or at the Pay and Display a short distance away from the meeting point, in the Tatton Street Car Park post code WA16 6AF. Well behaved dogs welcome, but on leads at all times. Bring coffee and a snack if you wish. Wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, and bring waterproofs. Finish 13:30
