Overview

Train-based walk

Leader: Mary, meeting at Walk Start

Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers, or on the platform, at Piccadilly station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train or at the station in Stockport.

Transport to Walk Start: 18:43 train from Manchester Piccadilly (final destination Norwich).

Suggested Ticket: Off-Peak Day Return to Stockport £5.70. At time of writing, advance singles were available on the outward train for £2.30 and on some of the return trains for £2.10.

Walk Start: Stockport railway station at 19:00. Please assemble in the ticket office hall.

Waypoints: Edgeley, Hollywood Park, River Mersey, Burnage Rugby Club, Heaton Mersey Park and Bowl, Mersey Vale Nature Park, Didsbury Road, River Mersey, Stockport Interchange Bus Station.

Return Services: Every few minutes to Manchester.

Extra: Toilets at Walk Start (rail users only). No toilets en route. After the walk, those wishing to stay on for refreshments can join us at  Wetherspoons pub in Stockport (which offers lots of options, including non alcoholic drinks, and where the food and is affordable).

An urban country walk along the River Mersey and through parks and a nature reserve and along country lanes. 

Please wear suitable footwear with a good sole, as some of the paths are uneven and muddy in parts.  Please no Crocs or sandals.
