Overview
This is a very pleasant, level ground, walk from the attractive West Oxfordshire village of Bampton, where we have previously started many walks. This time we’ll head northwest to and around Black Bourton, where all will be revealed as to where the ‘Black’ in the name came from. (Spoiler alert: it’s nothing grim.) We’ll come back via the brooks that flow on the west side of Bampton. We’ll pass buildings that were used in the TV series Downton Abbey, some of which are open to visitors; check times online. Bring a drink, and perhaps a snack, for the refreshment stop. There is free parking on the north, east and south sides of the church. The meeting point is on the south side of the church. A joint Vale and West Oxfordshire groups' walk on the first Tuesday of the month. Vale Walk Leader DC 07544 979253
