From Barnt Green station we walk gently uphill along a tree-lined avenue and into the magical woodland of Lickey Hills Country Park. We enter Pinfield Wood, and after one mile we arrive at Warren Lane visitor centre with the opportunity for a short break and refreshments. (Please note - cash only transactions at the centre). Continuing along a wooded path, we pass through Lickey Warren churchyard before crossing a road to reach an imposing monument. We stroll along a quiet lane before reaching Beacon Hill, which offers expansive views over South Birmingham and beyond. We then head downhill before joining the North Worcestershire Path to reach the southern gateway to the Waseley Hills. We cross over the entire length of these hills until we reach Waseley visitor centre, where we will take a break for lunch. After lunch we ascend Windmill Hill - the highest point of our walk with its virtually 360° panoramic views. Continuing downhill, we rejoin the North Worcestershire Path and cross Lickey golf course. We then follow a track beneath Bilberry Hill back to Warren Lane visitor centre. Shortly afterwards we arrive at Cofton Hill, which offers fine views over Barnt Green and the Bittell Reservoirs. We pass by a backdrop of statuesque Douglas Fir trees before retracing our steps through Pinfield Wood back to the station. This is a moderately challenging walk of approximately 8.5 miles and is likely to be muddy and slippery in places with some steepish inclines. Stout footwear is essential, as is warm and waterproof clothing.
