This is a lovely walk along the riverside, looking out for Herons, Mallards and Egrets, with a stop to admire the Temple of the Muses and Wallace statue, and passing the Donkey Sanctuary on the return to the start.
Please note that the starting point and route have had to be changed because of difficult riverside conditions. We now meet at Newtown St Boswells, and from the car park we will pick up the St Cuthbert’s Way, walking alongside the Bowden Burn, through trees, snowdrops and wild garlic. There are several flights of wooden steps that take us to a viewpoint high above the river. We descend a flight of steps to the Dryburgh footbridge . This path was extremely muddy .
We follow the Borders Abbey Way across the bridge along towards the Dryburgh Hotel and up a quiet road to the path leading up to the Wallace statue . We will take this at a leisurely pace, with stops to admire the fine views of the Eildons and catch our breath .
We continue across fields adjacent to Bemersyde House, to find a good path towards the river . We take a high level path that descends gradually to the river. THIS PATH HAS MANY TREE ROOTS, IS NARROW IN PLACES AND WAS EXTREMELY MUDDY ON THE RECCE .
Notes for non-members.

If you haven't walked before with any Ramblers groups, we allow you to walk with us for a maximum of 3 walks, before you decide whether to join the Ramblers.

The leader knows the walk and will advise whether it is suitable for you, or if it is better for you to start with a leisurely walk, so that you can judge your fitness. We don't want you to be disappointed by your first walk.
