Starting from the easily located Wayrham Dale layby and picnic site on the A166 with plenty of parking, just over 3 miles West of Fridaythorpe, this walk provides some great views over typical Yorkshire Wolds countryside, two attractive villages and distant views over the Vale of York. From the layby we take the level footpath to High Callis Wold and onward to Deep Dale, going down the steep path and up the less challenging track to Bishop Wilton Wold, where we can enjoy fantastic views over the village from the Lord of the Rings themed bench. From there we walk along the edge, partly on a permissive path, before descending to Bishop Wilton village and heading North up Worsen Dale to Cheese Cake Wold and views over Kirby Underdale. We then take a footpath to Painsthorpe Lane and onwards up a fairly steep section of the lane to a footpath leading to Worm Dale. Where Worm Dale joins Thixen Dale, we turn South into Bradeham Dale and onwards to Wayrham Dale and back to the layby where we started.
Although the walk is mainly gently undulating, there are three fairly challenging uphill sections and two steep downhill sections. The walk will be paced so that walkers can do the steeper sections safely and with as many rests as needed (it's a walk not a race).
With regret, no dogs allowed, accept assistance dogs by agreement with the walk leader in advance.
The walk is locally graded moderate plus.
