Overview

This walk will be led by Jack Hutchinson . As the walk is 11 miles and there is about 1200ft  of ascent and some steep climbs and tricky descents together with some awkward stiles the walk is locally graded moderate plus.

This will be a fine, scenic and varied walk on the southern edge of the Hambleton Hills.

The first and last 3 miles or so will be mostly easy walking but after Kilburn where we will have the morning break there will be a long and mostly gradual ascent of 600 feet to the high point near Cam Farm. Perhaps just before this point we will stop for lunch.

Afterwards we descend steadily to Byland Abbey followed by 3 miles of level walking back to Coxwold.

An excellent walk overall with lovely views especially on the hilly middle section. However be prepared for some lesser walked paths, a number of stiles and 2 or 3 short but tricky descents where walking poles would be useful.
