West Mendip Walkers moderate, pleasantly varied, 15.3 kms (9.5 miles) circular walk from Winsford Car Park (TA24 7JE), with 450 metres (1,475 feet) of ascent. The walk heads out in a southerly direction through the picturesque village of Winsford before turning west, climbing steadily through woodland along a brook towards Winsford Hill. Following a short section on the B3223 and then across open moorland we arrive at Winsford Hill at 426 metres, offering spectacular views (weather permitting) across Exmoor. We then head north over the Punchbowl and Bye Common, descending to the River Exe for an easy 2.5 mile riverside stretch back into Winsford.
There will be the option of refreshments or tea/ coffee & cake at the Royal Oak, Halse Lane, Winsford at the culmination of the walk. If you do wish to stay for tea/ coffee and cake, please let us know in advance so they can bake accordingly. The walk is very dog-friendly with only a small road walk in the middle section and no stiles, but livestock is a possibility in some of the fields around Bye Common. This walk is generally level.
