West Mendip Walkers 12 miles moderate walk. From the car park in Castle Street, we walk through Nether Stowey, crossing the A39 to ascend Pinnacle Hill. Next we descend and climb Tet Hill, before gradually descending into Stogursey, where we see the moat and ruin of Stogursey Castle. After walking through the village centre, we turn again towards the coast, through the hamlet of Shurton, ending with the Hinckley Point C development directly on our right. At the coast we turn west, and follow the coastal path to Shurton Bars and towards Lilstock Harbour (which we can optionally choose to visit, or turn back for home). We next skirt round Honibere Wood, through the hamlet of Burton and this time pass to the edge of Stogursey, viewing the castle from the opposite side. From Stogursey, we follow the brook to Durborough before making our way back to Nether Stowey (crossing the A39 once again), passing Coleridge’s former home and back to the car park. Dog friendly, but will need to be on leads for much of the walk as it’s farming country. This walk has a few gentle climbs
Please bring a packed lunch, plenty of water and other refreshments as required. At the end of the walk, The Ancient Mariner pub is open from 3pm.
