West Mendip Walkers 8 mile circular walk from Saltford, graded moderate with 77 feet of climb. Starting from the Bird in Hand pub we cross over the river Avon and follow the footpath along the east bank, turning uphill to Kelston where we pass the Bath Soft Cheese Cafe and Shop. We continue a sustained uphill climb on footpaths and tracks until we reach the viewpoint at Prospect Stile which abuts Bath Racecourse. From here we can enjoy far reaching views across to Keynsham, Bristol and beyond. We continue on the Cotswold Way, through the village of North Stoke and onwards to Swineford where we cross the busy A431road. We walk a short way along the river bank before joining the Bristol and Bath Railway Path which takes us back to Saltford.
This walk has some steep climbs but there are no stiles. Livestock may be present in fields, though none at time of recce. Dog friendly but be mindful of fast moving cyclists on railway path. The Bird pub will accommodate approx. 10 cars in their carpark so please car share where possible. They will be open for refreshments on our return.
