A moderate 8.8 miles starting in a southernly direction through the very pretty Tilery and Brierly Wood, which forms part of the Wynard Country Park. At the end of the wood we then head north walking along the Castle Eden Walkway; crossing over the A689 using the footbridge. Turning East we then walk to Embelton and pass the site of the medieval village of Swainston although it is difficult to spot. Up to this point there is very little mud as all the paths consist of either hard standing or ingrained gravel. At Embleton we say farewell to the 5 mile - ish short walk group who head back to the initial start point which is again hard gravel.
For the long ramble walkers we head north and this is where we first encounter a saturated field where the PROW is not easily identifiable. Crossing over a footbridge and into a field full of sheep we then follow a bridle path to Embleton Old Hall, finally meeting up with the PROW adjacent to the Walkway. A good twenty minute walk back to the car park along established paths should see our boots dry off a bit!
