Welcome to Capital Walkers, the friendly London Ramblers group for people aged 40+. We walk every weekend and usually at least once during the week.
A walk bringing together a section of the Green Chain Walk and a section of the Capital Ring which ends with the Thames Path into Woolwich. The walk features views from Lesnes Abbey, Shooters Hill and Oxleas Wood. Our trail goes through Abbey Woods, Bostall Woods, Winns Common/Plumstead and on to Shooters Hiil and Oxleas Wood for a lunch stop. Please bring a packed lunch.
After lunch we follow the Capital Ring to Severndroog Castle and thereafter into more open space through Woolwich Common, and several parks to the Thames Barrier for the final section of the walk to Woolwich. Expect some muddy paths. Firm footwear with good grip is recommended. We will be walking at a fairly brisk pace.
A walk full of variety with the familiar and not so familiar to make for a pleasing and rewarding walk.
Travel - Abbey Wood is served by trains from London Bridge and Cannon Street Railway Stations and The Elizabeth Line from London Paddington Station. Use journey planner for train times.
Toilets are available at Abbey Wood Station before exiting the ticket barrier.
There are multiple dropout points for buses with onward travel from mainline train stations. The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
