The High Weald Landscape Trail offers a captivating journey through the counties of West Sussex, East Sussex, and Kent. Spanning 95 miles, this scenic trail meanders through the stunning High Weald, one of England's finest landscapes.
This is the fourth section of the High Weald Landscape Trail and we start at Tunbridge Wells and will finish at Paddock Wood. It is an undulating journey through the heart of Kent’s High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The area is renowned for its small, irregularly shaped fields, interconnected by narrow lanes and hedgerows, reflecting its medieval heritage. We will encounter gill streams—steep-sided, wooded valleys with fast-flowing water—and may notice remnants of the region’s iron industry, such as hammer ponds. We will initially walk south through Hargate Forest to reconnect with the trail, then continue through the village of Frant, climbing gradually alongside Hawkenbury and heading eastward to Pembury, before culminating in the picturesque village of Matfield before making our way to Paddock Wood train station.
Will stop in a suitable place in the middle of the way for lunch, bring a packed lunch.
The next section of the High Weald Landscape Trail will be on 26th July.
