This is the first walk in an 8 stage trail of walks, starting at Sevenoaks Station and finishing at Charing. It links, or passes close to, 4 palaces used by the Archbishop of Canterbury (Knole, Otford, Maidstone and Charing). On this walk we start by walking through the attractive streets of Sevenoaks, up to "the Vyne". From there we enter Knowle Park with some ups and downs. Leaving the park, we enter Godden Wood where we drop down to our lunch stop (3.5 km - 2.17 miles into the walk). Pub/picnic options. After lunch (and continuing downhill), we reach the Grove, where we climb steeply up to the Maidstone Road. From there we gradually descend, with some road walking, to the finish at Kemsing Station. Overall ascent 177 metres, descent 189 metres.
Toilets on the train and at Sevenoaks Station. Freedom Pass holders get a single ticket from Knockholt to Sevenoaks and a single ticket from Kemsing to Swanley. Book a place on the walk, and a pub lunch if you want one, by 18:00 hours on 21st April (text only please, no phone calls). Meet walk leader on platform 6 at London Bridge station, in time for the 10.43 train to Sevenoaks.
