A walk on Ashdown Forest that maximises the views to the points of the compass. We will start from Piglet's car park, briefly pausing to pay our respects at the memorial to AA Milne and EH Shepherd as we move on to Gills Lap with westerly views coming into range. The route now takes towards the Old Lodge and we will take a less used path hugging the perimeter of its nature sanctuary which we go into briefly as we approach the Lodge and then branch off into a pretty woodland with a stream (the Garden of Eden). On climbing up we will walk across the Heathland through Camp Hill where we will have a brief snack lunch, before walking, with Southerly views, towards Poundgate where we will take refreshments.
After our lunch we will walk up to Kings Standing Clump with views over the valley to the East before setting off on the path of the roman road, past the highest point of the Forest (Greenwood Gate Clump) from where we enjoy the views northwards down the valley as we climb up to our starting point.
Toilets only available after 7 miles, though plenty of woodland!
Please ensure that you check our website, sevenoaksramblers .org.uk, before leaving for the walk and dress for the forecast weather conditions.
There are a few ascents but the overall total for the walk (1100 feet) is not excessive.
There will be mud!
