A walk on Ashdown Forest that maximises the views to the points of the compass. We will start of from King's Standing car park (regrettably no ice cream van), before setting off on the path of the roman road, past the highest point of the Forest (Greenwood Gate Clump) from where we enjoy the views northwards down the valley as we climb up to Piglets car park. The first brief pause will be to pay our respects at the memorial to AA Milne and EH Shepherd as we move on to Gills Gaps with westerly views coming into range.
The route now takes towards the Old Lodge and we take a less used path hugging the perimeter of its nature sanctuary which we go into for our mid morning break. After the break we move into the woodland before coming out into the heathland again, climbing Camp Hill with its views over the heath and striking for Poundgate where we stop for our picnic lunch and take refreshments as required.
After the break we will push on for the last two miles to our end point with our views now over the eastern valley to the woods beyond.
Toilets only available after 8 miles, though plenty of woodland!
