This relatively flat walk starts in the ancient linear village of Adderbury. You will be disappointed to learn it has nothing to do with adders but derives its name from Eadbirgesbyrig. There is evidence of Roman sites in the area. The old buildings are mainly built in local ironstone, which gives the village its honey colour. From here we cross fields and the M40 to join the Oxford Canal, which we follow from Twyford Wharf through tranquil rural landscape to the outskirts of suburban Banbury, then signs of the industrial past, into the revived canal basin of Banbury, passing gaily decorated canal boats on the way and bearing in mind this was the M40 of its day. There are 4 stiles to be negotiated.
