We are the West Berkshire Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.

The walk follows paths, tracks and lanes from Shaw House through Newbury, skirting Snelsmore Common and returning to Shaw. Leaving the car park, we head towards Newbury, passing through Victoria Park to join the Kennet & Avon canal. We follow the canal West for a short while on the Lambourn Valley Way, before making for the Lady Well at Speen and then on to Bagnor. From there, we climb up to the edge of Snelsmore before turning South to pass Donnington Castle and Nothing Hill on the way back to Shaw House. The going is generally good, with one wet, although reasonably solid, stretch at Snelsmore. There are no stiles.
Note that to get back to Shaw House in time for the picnic and tour(s) etc, we will need to walk at a shade under 3 miles an hour – there will be a 15 minute coffee break.
A shorter walk of around 6.25 miles and 320’ ascent is also available, with a similar coffee break but with the walk starting at 10am.

Please park at Shaw House car park. Please car share as much as possible to limit our impact on the carpark.
