Overview

A route of contrasts, combining a stretch of Hadrian's Wall Path with a wilder route on the north side of the wall.

The route skirts Cawfields quarry to Hole Gap then heads north to High Close Burns with a view of the line of the Roman Aqueduct. We then head broadly west via Bundle Hill to Low Tipalt and on towards High Old Shields before dropping down to join Hadrian's Wall Path at Walltown Gap. The route back to Cawfields is along Hadrian's Wall Path, passing Aesica Roman Fort.
