Walk in an area that until the decline of the lead mines and closure of the railway in 1969 had been home to a thriving railway community, complete with church and school.
From the old station we walk north and descend to the shores of Smiddy Shaw reservoir. Following moorland paths we reach Hisehope reservoir with expansive views stretching northwards. The route turns south up to Hawkburn Head where we join the disused railway line, the Waskerley Way. After visiting reservoir number three, Waskerley reservoir, we return along the Waskerley Way.
The walk is mostly on clearly defined wide tracks and some narrower, muddy moorland paths.
