We start at the northbound platform exit from Woodford station, zone 4 on the Central Line (make sure you get on a train that goes to Epping rather than Hainault). There are toilets at the station, but these are on the southbound platform.
The walk heads up from Woodford and into Epping Forest. We loop around Connaught Water, the source of the river Ching, and stop for lunch on Chingford Plain where there is a cafe and a pub.
Please bring a packed lunch just in case the cafe and pub are not operating.
After lunch we follow the tiny river Ching down the valley eventually parting company in Highams Park, where the Ching takes an abrupt right turn and heads across to join the river Lea.
The walk continues south through the forest and briefly crosses the North Circular before heading back to Woodford.
Drop out points : The lunch stop is close to Chingford Station which is zone 5 on the Overground.
Even in June there is a chance that some paths may be muddy.
