10.00 am start in Chinley on Buxton Road. Free parking on Buxton Road near the junctions with Alder Brook/Alders Lane. Repeat of walk on 4/12/23 in the hope that this time we won’t have mist and will see the views!

NOTE: if the weather is Icy, this walk will be cancelled as paths on top would be dangerous, so please check before setting out.

This walk is Moderate 8.25 miles, 1619ft ascent. Map available by pressing “Route” button. The initial ascent is up the quiet roads Stubbins Lane and Over Hill Road before heading North on the moors towards Hills Farm and East to Peep O’Day. We skirt Mount Famine and go over South Head (although there is the option to walk round the base). We follow the path to Shireoaks, Breckhead, White Knowle Farm and back to the start. There are lovely views on this walk. Most of the route is good underfoot but there is mud towards the end. There is one public toilet in Chinley on Green Lane between Lower Lane and Derwent Drive (although bizarrely only appears to be open in the morning). There is a railway station in Chinley within walking distance of the start. Bring food and drink for a coffee and lunch stops. Lifts available from the Handforth area. Contact Melanie 07854 093785.
