WALK DETAILS CHANGED: Same start point, but with an altered route.
Moderate. Because of a footbridge closure, which I only found out about on a final recce today, 21 November, I have altered the route for Saturday 22 November’s Short Walk. The walk is now shorter, only 5 miles. Due to the underfoot conditions, and the addition of a short but steepish hill in the altered route, I have regraded the walk as moderate, not easy/moderate. There were many icy patches across a field, and ice on puddles on a track today, but with rain forecast for Saturday morning, these might turn to mud. New specs: 8 km or approximately 5 miles, 133 m or 436 feet ascent (OS Mapping). Make sure you have waterproofed your walking boots! and dress warmly. Bring poles, ICE cards, and, as per original entry, a snack and a drink for our coffee stop.
Moderate walk from Congleton heading part way up to Cloud Side.
This is a moderate walk, along towpaths, footpaths across fields, some lanes and tracks. A few gentle ascents.
Our route: along the canal heading northeast, down to Dane-in-Shaw Pasture (an SSSI), towpath again, a small loop from the canal towpath to join the Biddulph Valley Way, Castle Inn Road, Dreamcatcher Meadows, past the Cricket Club, then some road walking (on pavements) to the canal again, and return to start point.
Can be very muddy in places; bring poles if you normally use them. Several stiles.
Well behaved dogs welcome, on short leads at all times. We pass near sheep on part of the walk, and sometimes there are bullocks in the Dane-in-Shaw Pasture.
Pack your ICE cards, a drink and snack for mid-morning.
GPX will be available on ECR website soon.
