Our route takes us to Stoney Middleton, exploring some of the landmarks that made the village famous — including the Plague Cottages, the Boundary Stone, and one of only two octagonal churches in the country: St Martins. St Martin, known for sharing his cloak with a freezing beggar, is depicted in a beautiful stained-glass window inside the church, which dates back to 1415. After coffee at Riley Graves, we continue on to Mompessons Well and across Eyam Moor before returning.
(This is the same walk that had to be cancelled in October due to illness.)
The full route is about 8.5 miles, moderate in difficulty, with most of the climbing done either side of the coffee stop.
And a fun fact for fans of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul: in 2007, the UK’s largest crystal meth lab was discovered somewhere along this very route… but exactly where? You’ll have to join us to find out!
If your groups walk is fully booked, come along anyway — everyone's welcome.
Bring a flask and packed lunch; we stop twice — once for coffee and once for lunch — and set off at 10:00 a.m. sharp, with whoever’s ready to go.
