OS map OL1.
There are toilet facilities at Heatherdene and Fairholmes. Short sections of this walk involve walking on roadside pavements. We will head up past Whinstone Lee to Derwent Edge. On Derwent Edge there are gritstone tors, some of which are named .eg. Wheel Stones, Salt Cellar and Cakes of Bread. We should reach the trig point at Back Tor in time for lunch. After lunch we will head to Lost Lad, then down Abbey Bank with views of Howden Dam to the path alongside the reservoirs. We will walk the short distance to Howden Dam before retracing our steps and continuing on the path alongside Derwent Reservoir.
From the dam wall we have a short walk to Fairholmes, where we will have a break before returning to the start point via the path alongside Ladybower Reservoir.
Depending how I feel at the end of the 12 mile walk, I may do an additional 5 miles. Starting from Heatherdene, walk across Ladybower dam wall then down the valley to Bamford. From Bamford, steep uphill to Bamford Edge; the walk along the top gives good views of the Hope Valley, Win Hill and Ladybower. Return through woodland to Heatherdene.
