A circular walk in pleasant countryside on the Sussex/Surrey border which will be accompanied at times by the sound of steam trains on the Bluebell Railway. We might catch sight of a train, possibly even The Flying Scotsman locomotive which is visiting the railway this weekend. The walk starts by following the Worth Way, a disused railway line for a mile and a half before turning on to more varied surroundings and views. The lunch stop at West Hoathley is at the halfway point. The Cat Inn is available for liquid refreshments but please bring a packed lunch as the pub gets very busy and there will not be time to order a meal. The church opposite is suitable for a picnic. Interesting features on the return route include Weir Wood Reservoir and Stone Hill Rocks, a sandstone outcrop. A final stretch along a quiet lane leads back into the old High Street of East Grinstead which has a number of timber framed buildings. There is a pub five minutes away from the station for post walk drinks.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
