Exploration of Upper Kentmere

From Mardale Head, we visit Small Water on the way to Nan Bield Pass. We will leave the path to find the Ullstone before making a pathless descent to Kentmere Reservoir. From here we take an unorthodox route up to Yoke via the very steep grassy delights of Rainsborrow Crag - with a detour across slippery slate spoils to find the slimy boulders of Rainsborrow Cave. The ascent is steep and mainly without paths, and promises stunning views. We then join the fells of the classic Kentmere Round, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, and Mardale Ill Bell before returning via Nan Bield.
