This walk starts from Keld and follows the Pennine Way to Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in England, built in 1737 for pack-horse traders and miners. It is 1,732 feet above sea level!
From Keld we follow the Pennine Way signs towards East Stonesdale Farm emerging onto the moor. We continue along this well marked route to reach Lad Gill and make a short ascent up Lad Gill Hill, still following the Pennine Way sign across the moor and soon Tan Hill Inn will appear ahead.
Leaving the Inn we take the path signed to Ravenseat passing the remains of Tanhill Colliery. Following Tan Gill, we pass a series of waterfalls as we approach Ravenseat and continue through a farmyard and pastures to "Oven Mouth", a small but dramatic gorge through which the Whitsundale Beck surges.
We continue following the line of the lower path closest to the waterfalls, as we are now alongside the River Swale approaching Keld.
