For the outward journey you can take the Thameslink service from St Pancras (platform B) at 9.21 calling at West Hampstead Thameslink Station at 9.29, arriving in Harpenden at 9.47
I will board at West Hampstead.
In the morning we go through the common and then alongside a golf course. The highlight of the morning is the fairly new Heartwood forest with wooden sculptures and wild flower meadows.
Lunch will be in the village of Sandridge where there are 3 pubs and a cafe. I have booked 6 places at the Queens Head pub. Use the email form to let me know if you want a pub lunch with others in the group. There are buses from Sandridge to St Albans if you want to cut the walk short here.
The afternoon is largely on hard surfaces and you may want to bear this in mind with your choice of footwear. We pass through the Childwickbury country estate, once the home of Stanley Kubrick, and finish in the historic town of St Albans with its stunning Cathedral. From St Albans we will walk (or take a bus from Victoria Street) to St Albans City Station where there are about 10 trains an hour to London.
