Overview

This is the first leg of 5 walks following the Steel Cotton Trail that runs from Sheffield to Manchester.Meet at Hathersage Railway Station at 9:30 in time to catch the 9:46 train to Sheffield. From Sheffield we will follow the Sheaf Valley Trail to Millhouses Park and on to Dore and Totley Station to start the climb over Totley Moor to the Longshaw Estate, continuing to Yarncliffe Woods for a steep descent to Grindleford. At Grindleford we will follow the track past Padley Chapel and descend through Coppice Woods to join the River Derwent to take us back to Hathersage. The walk is a mixture of inner city roads, parks and woodland through Sheffield followed by open moorland tracks, woodland and riverside paths. Total cumulative ascent 1900 ft. Sorry, no dogs due to local restrictions. Full Day. Bring lunch and adequate liquids. Booking is essential and opens from 17/03/2026.
