Overview

NORTH and MID CHESHIRE WALKING WEEK - KESWICKMeet @ 09:30 (tbc) for 78 bus to Rosthwaite. Route starts on a level stony track by Stonethwaite Beck then ascends through woodland on a path that is narrow and very steep in places. Eventually easing after reaching open hillside we continue upwards alongside Willygrass Gill to reach Dock Tarn. We skirt one side of the tarn on a bouldery path before descending on a steep stepped path, followed by easier ground to Watendlath Tarn. The path now leads down beside Watendlath Beck and woodland to Ashness Bridge. Another steady climb takes us up to Walla Crag and then using a variety of paths and tracks we return to Keswick. The views and Lakeland scenery on this walk are just reward for the effort. Expect some uneven slippery ground and possible wet/muddy terrain. NB there is an option to shorten this walk at Ashness Bridge using the bus to return to Keswick. Total cumulative ascent 2250 ft. Sorry, no dogs due to local restrictions. Please book for this walk in the Walks Programme. Maximum bookings 30. Full Day. Bring lunch and adequate liquids. Booking is essential and opens from 12/05/2026.
