Autumn is one of the best times to explore the open spaces, fine views and interesting village backstreets around Hampstead and Highgate, including the Heath and Highgate Wood. This is a brisk paced and sometimes hilly circular walk, mostly on good paths or pavements, starting and ending at Hampstead Northern Line underground station.
Some paths may be muddy (so perhaps leave your trendy white trainers at home). We will have a picnic lunch either outside the cafe at Kenwood or Highgate Wood, but there may be time to grab a quick bite if time permits. We will finish close to a number of pubs and cafes in Hampstead.
The walk will have multiple places near public transport for walkers to drop out if they prefer a shorter walk or want to take time visiting the impressive art collection at Kenwood (free entry but check closing time).
There are no toilets at Hampstead Underground station (but plenty en route), so if needs be please arrive early and use facilities in local cafes.
Travel: Make your way to Hampstead Underground Station which is on the Northern Line [Zone3].
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken (including looking for conkers!).
