A walk from Hertford to Stansted St. Margarets following the Lea Valley Navigation Canal with a detour to Wareside where we will take our lunch break. The walk follows canal towpaths to Amwell Reservoir where we will have our morning break then an uphill section following a disused railway line, open woodland and farmland to Wareside. After lunch we will return to the Lea Valley Canal at St. Margarets.
Lunch will be at Wareside. The Chequers Inn provides a range of meals and picnic lunches which can be eaten nearby. Refer to URL. Please contact me for lunch bookings by Wednesday 5th November.
There are 2 options for drop out points:
1) From Amwell Reservoir continue to St. Margarets railway station. About a 20 minute walk. This will mean missing lunch at Wareside but there are places to eat in St, Margarets. Trains from St. Margarets are at 17 and 47 minutes part the hour.
2) From Wareside there is a bus at 14:26 o/s White Horse PH (currently closed) which is close to the Chequers Inn, arriving at Ware Railway Station at 14:38.
From London join the group at Tottenham Hale station where we catch the 08:55 train to Hertford East, arriving at 09:31.
In November the walk may be muddy in part so do wear walking boots and bring walking poles if required. The walk is moderate with no significant uphill stretches.
There are toilets at Tottenham Hale and on the train to Hertford. Toilets at East Hertford station are staff only and a key needs to be requested.
If you intend to join the walk please click the email link. This will provide me with an indication of number of people joining the walk.
