The walk starts at Hothfield Common (4 miles north-west of Ashford, off the A20) which is an acid bog, a rare type of habitat for Kent. Walking partly along the Greensand Way and the Stour Valley Walk, through picturesque countryside with streams, fields, orchards and woods, and a long section along quiet country lanes. No stiles, may be muddy in fields.
Two nibble breaks, bring your own refreshments.
The car park (free) is in Cades Road, TN26 1HD.
Travelling south from Maidstone along the A20, take the right turn signposted Ford Mill, Hothfield and Little Chart onto Cades Road. Turn left into the car park which is not well signposted.
After the walk, The Swan, Swan Lane, Little Chart, TN27 0QB is a short drive from the car park (we pass it on the walk). See website for further information or 01233 840011 for bookings.
Assistance dogs only. Hothfield Heathlands have ground nesting birds, grazing cattle and horses, so dogs must be on a short lead. The long section of lane walking is not suited to dogs.
