Oswestry Ramblers welcome people who enjoy walking and the countryside. We walk twice a week mainly in Shropshire and Wales and help improve local footpaths.
A Moderate PLUS walk with 1012ft Ascent.We take the Hiraethog trail to a high point in the Clocaenog Forest called Craig Bron Banog then field and forest paths to return.
Some of the forest paths, marked green on the OS map, are overgrown and impassable. Consequently, we need to stick to forest tracks the result being that the walk extends to 9 miles not 8. The forest tracks, including most of the (poorly) marked long distance Hiraethog trail, are frequently tarmac covered. There are a number of stiles and due to some highly vegetated parts it is advisable not to wear shorts. Other than that it has the features of a good walk with an interesting summit, the climb to which is not difficult.

Gatacre Playing Fields Car Park, Oswestry
The picnic site by the River Alwen just outside the village of Llanfihangel. There is plenty of parking at the picnic site which is just beyond the church and by the river. The church is a few hundred yards on your right as you turn left just before the bridge and pub (before the temporary traffic lights at the bridge). Directions: Turn off the A5 at Cerrigydrudion onto the B5105 to Llanfihangel 35 miles from Oswestry.
