A scenic coastal walk that takes in Culzean Bay, Culzean Castle Country Park and Maidenhead Bay. We shall park at Maidens and catch the bus to Glenside Farm, from where we head to Culzean Bay, walking as far as Croy. We then walk back down the beach to Culzean Castle and the country park. The route through the country park will take a section of rocky shore and follow a path along the fringe between the woods and the coastal cliffs. The final section follows the Ayrshire Coastal Path alongside Maidenhead Head Bay to Maidens Harbour. The walk has sandy beaches, fine woodlands, sea views and a stately castle with a spectacular setting. Low tide will be at 2 p.m., so there will be an opportunity for beachcombing. The route is mainly on woodland paths, sandy beaches, some tarmacadam surfaces and a short section of rocky foreshore. Woodland paths may be muddy and uneven in places.
If you wish to car share, meet at Livingston North Railway Station, South Car Park. If joining at Maidens, meet at the car park on Harbour Road. We shall catch the 60 bus to Glenside Farm at 10.04 from the stop at 'Maidens, after Harbour Road'.
