An Autumnal walk from Melrose around local countryside and along the lovely River Tay.
We walk from Melrose centre and along the disused railway line before going up along the Rhymers Glen to an old hillfort for some great views of the surrounding countryside and onto Bowen Moor before dropping to Cauldshiel Loch. We continue through woodland and farmland before following the River Tay to the lovely Baronial Abbotsford House, home of Walter Scott. We then return to Melrose along the river.
Mainly paths and muddy uneven tracks following parts of the Southern Upland Way, the Borders Way and the Melrose Trail. Some short steep slopes.
