A walk of paths, woods, hellfire and the urban jungle…
A fast paced walk due to short daylight hours. This stage marks the start of the Chilterns taking us through the next 4 sections of the London Countryway. There are beechwoods, narrow valleys with some beautiful, hedged paths. The walk leaves the Thames Valley and on a clear day you can look behind and see the North Downs in the distance. The walk passes through Blounts and Shillingridge Woods. In West Wycombe we pass St Lawrence Church and Mausoleum arriving at the Hellfire Caves.
The aim is to arrive at the Hellfire Caves at 2pm. Here there are 2 options,
a) Buy a ticket to view the hellfire caves (advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment).
b) Wait outside while the others visit the caves (there is cafe).
The walk will resume at approximately 2:45pm for the remaining 3 miles to High Wycombe station. The walk leader can not guarantee a ticket, these are administered by the Hellfire Caves company and subject to availability. Advance booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. Ticket prices adult £8.50 per person, see website for various discounts.
No drop-out points.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
