A MODERATE PLUS walk from Meifod, The outward route is along Glyndwr’s Way with a steady ascent up Broniarth Hill with Views of Llyn Du. Passing the walled Garden House and on through Clawdd Wood. Return to Meifod alongside the River Vyrnwy. Quiet lanes and woodland paths with some short ascents, Good views. Stiles, maybe muddy in places.
Report from reconnaissance 14 Feb
I had a more or less dry day as regards rain so I was able to enjoy the walk except for the wet and mud on some of the paths and on a few fields. I have decided to do a few adjustments to the route to cut off some of the very wet and muddy parts of the walk that reduces the route distance only slightly. My boots and trousers (no gaiters) finished up very muddy.
The height gain from the car park start to the top of the first height gained is nearly 500 feet but it is a steady and regular height gain path.
The walk review describes it as moderate but with wet and muddy underfoot conditions at the moment it makes walking a bit tiring for a walk description of moderate.
The total time that I took was 4 hours and 45 minutes that includes lunch and messing around looking for any deviations from the muddy parts, so with a 10.15 start I see no problem in finishing well before 4pm.
