A short walk through green spaces on the outskirts of London with the intention of reaching Kenley Airfield in time to see The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire and Hurricane) flypast scheduled for 14.31. The walk begins with a steep climb up residential streets and a further steep climb through Foxley Wood. Kenley Airfield is approximately an hour into the walk after which the walk continues by crossing a valley and heading steeply up to Riddlesdown. Refreshment options at the end are Whytleafe Recreation Ground café, The Whytleafe Tavern or The Radius Arms micropub. Please note there will be no lunch stop on this walk and that the flypast is not guaranteed and may not take place if the weather is bad. The walk will however go ahead regardless.

Take the 12.42 from London Bridge (East Croydon 13.00) arrives Purley 13.10. Meet outside the exit from platform 6 signposted to Godstone Road. There are toilets at Purley on platforms 3 and 5 but no others until the end of the walk. Return trains are half hourly from either Whytleafe or Upper Warlingham stations which are close together on different lines. All stations are in Zone 6.
Dropout. It is possible to leave the walk at Kenley station after about 4 miles avoiding the climb up to Riddlesdown.
