Overview

B WALK DESCRIPTION: 9 miles with 1,200 ft of climbing. Starts on the A6 in Darley Dale. From here cross the River Derwent and then climb through Clough Wood. Descend into Birchover, where there will be time for early lunch stop perhaps making use of one of the two pubs in the village. From Birchover climb up to a quarry then onto the edge of Stanton Moor, designated as scheduled ancient monument. Pass by a tower built as a monument to the 1832 Reform Act. Then come to Nine Ladies Stone Circle. From Nine Ladies Stone Circle drop down to the village of Stanton in Peak then down to the River Derwent to finish in Rowsley at the Peak Shopping Village where there may be time to visit pub, cafes, and toilets.  (The Shopping Village closes at 5.00pm.). Picnic lunch. Maps Explorer 24 (White Peak); Landranger 119 (Buxton and Matlock).
