From Salter's Gate, we head down to Tunstall Reservoir and walk round the west side of the reservoir. We then leave the reservoir and head up to High Jofless, Park Wall Plantation and High Fawnlees for magnificent views across Weardale. Dropping down via Fawnlees Hall we reach the Waskerley Beck. After crossing the beck, we climb up Baal Hill Wood and make our way back to Salter's Gate via Backstone Bank and the dismantled railway.
(There are public toilets available at the picnic area on the west side of the reservoir.)

Park at the side of the road at Salter's Gate. The turning to Salter's Gate is on the right, about 3 miles north of Tow Law on the A68, as you drive south from the Tyne valley.
