Overview

Explore the South Tyne valley - a historic navigation route and the location of three trails.

From Slaggyford station, the route follows the South Tyne Trail to Lintley Halt. Here we join with the Pennine Way and the Pennine Journey as we head north to Williamston Bridge.  Crossing the river we follow an ancient bridleway along the eastern side of the valley, enjoying fine views over the South Tyne river.  After passing 'The Bog', we reach the hamlet of Eals and recross the river at Glendue Wood. Our return is via Burnstone and Knarsdale on the routes of the Pennine Journey and Pennine Way.

This walk is mainly on good paths and tracks.
