Overview

Starting from Southease we walk east along the South Downs Way climbing up Itford Hill and then along the top to Beddingham Hill. From here we descend almost back to sea level to cross Glynde Reach river at Glynde where we will have lunch. In the afternoon we will go up again to Mount Caburn and then drop down into Lewes for the return train.

Although this is not a long walk, there are quite a few hills!

Please bring a picnic, but we will stop for a drink at the pub in Glynde (if it is open) or alternatively at a bar at Glynde Station. Plenty of refreshment facilities in Lewes at the end of the walk.

Recommended train is the 8.54 from Victoria to Lewes arrives 9.56. The train for Southease leaves Lewes at 10.00 and arrives at Southease at 10.06. This is a very tight connection. If we miss the connection, we will catch Compass Bus 123 from outside the station at 10.30 arriving Southease Village at 10.46.

There is a drop-out point at lunchtime - trains are available back to Lewes from Glynde Station
