We are the West London Ramblers, mainly covering Ealing and Hounslow, but open to all. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
*Revised walk* An earlier version of this walk finished at Ewell West. Given the likely conditions in early January, the route has been changed to end at Wimbledon. This will provide us with more options for lunch and drop-out points if the weather is bad.
We will enjoy a route that links the lovely spaces and vistas of Bushy Park, Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. The start follows the London Loop to Kingston. We will stop briefly at the visitor centre in Bushy Park to buy coffee and use the toilets. We will then cut through Kingston to Richmond Park and follow a route via the Isabella Plantation to an outdoor café, where we have lunch. We will then continue through Richmond Park, cross onto Wimbledon Common, and walk through the Common to Wimbledon. The route is almost entirely flat and on good paths, including some hard surface and urban sections.
Please bring a packed lunch as the café may not be able to cope with all of us. There are many dropout points. Toilets are available in Bushy Park, Kingston, Richmond Park and Wimbledon station.
The start and finish are both in TfL zones. There are many options to get to the start point at Fulwell station. They include:
- Piccadilly Line to Hounslow East then 281 bus at 09:55 to Tolworth alighting at Fulwell/Sixth Cross Road, then short walk to Fulwell station (no toilets).
- 65 bus to Albany Road, change to 267 bus at 09:48 to Fulwell, alighting at Fulwell/Sixth Cross Road, then short walk to Fulwell station (no toilets).
- Train from Wimbledon, 09:57 service to Shepperton, arriving Fulwell at 10:20.
Exit Fulwell station on the south side, turning left at the top of the steps from the platform.
Return is from Wimbledon tube/rail station (toilets).
