The Pocklington Group are walking the Whitby Way in stages from York to Whitby. The Whitby Way starts at York Minster and finishes at Whitby Abbey, and it is designed to include some of the most interesting pilgrimage places in Yorkshire. It can, of course, be enjoyed simply as a walk, for it goes through beautiful scenery.
This stage of the Whitby Way offers stunning views over the Moors and into the valleys, before reaching the pretty Esk Valley at Glaisdale. The coach will take us to the start point of the walk on West Gill Head. We start the walk with a fine ridge walk across Glaisdale Moor with great views into Glaisdale and the evocatively named Great Fryup Dale, with far reaching views across the Moors and to the sea. We then descend to the village of Glaisdale and follow the Esk Valley Walk back to Grosmont, closely following the line of the River Esk
A hired coach (charges apply) is being used to take walkers from the meeting point of each walk to the start point of each stage. Pre-booking on the walk is therefore essential.
Please note that the walk now starts at 9.50am as the road bridge over the River Esk at Grosmont is closed (and we need to walk across it to catch the coach at 10am)
Pre booking is essential as a hired coach is being used. Please contact Martin Hill at mph60@btinternet.com if you would like to book to go on this stage. There are currently places left to book on this stage.
