From Sunbiggin Tarn the way briefly follows the Coast to Coast climbing gradually to join the Dales High Way. The path then threads through the limestone of Great Asby Scar before descending to the farm at Maisongill. Farm tracks and field trods lead to the road at Whygill Head. After a short section on the road a track leads to the access path down to the ruined farm in the Potts Valley. The path follows Potts Beck between impressive limestone outcrops before emerging onto open fell, eventually joining an unfenced road and the Coast to Coast. A short walk on the road follows before crossing Ravenstonedale Moor and returning to Sunbiggin Tarn.
Although a longer walk the paths are good, farm tracks, field trods and short sections of road. The ascent is moderate with no steep sections. There are a couple of short boggy sections. The Potts Vally is a hidden gem, little visited with a wild and remote feel.
