Overview

A moderate walk of approximately 7.5 miles, enjoying the lovely countryside and woodland of the Derwent valley. Starting in Rowlands Gill, we will head north east along the Derwent walk before beginning a steady, but very manageable, ascent west through Thornley Wood towards High Thornley. Almost(ish) all the ascent is done before we stop for lunch in the open countryside looking over Derwent Valley. We then continue west before turning south east at Spen Banks and following the path of the Spen Burn back into Rowlands Gill.

Dave Marshall has kindly offered to provide an option for a shorter walk if required.
