We rejoin the Thames Path about a mile south of Dorchester upon Thames, passing through Shillingford and Benson to reach the historic town of Wallingford. Please bring a picnic lunch to have in the lovely Castle Gardens with views of the nearby castle ruins. There will be a short pub stop in the town for drinks and toilets before continuing along the river with lovely views as it meanders through the Oxfordshire countryside. Apart from the small village of Moulsford with a famous riverside pub (The Beetle & Wedge) where we may have a brief stop if time permits, this section of the Thames Path seems quite remote until we approach Streatley and cross the river into Goring. There are regular trains (2 an hour) back to London, either changing at Reading for the Elizabeth Line or GWR direct to Paddington.
Either get the Elizabeth Line (Paddington 8.47, Ealing Broadway 8.56) or GWR (Paddington 9.22) to Reading. Then use south station exit to Station Road and catch the X40 bus at 10.15 to Shillingford (Kingfisher Inn stop) arriving 11.15. There should be time to use the toilets at the station before catching the bus as there are no others available until we reach Wallingford.
Those using the GWR service will need a return to Goring & Streatley. Freedom Pass/60+ holders using the Elizabeth Line to/from Reading will only need a single from Goring to Reading for the return journey.
